Cherry Festival Parade

Everyone Loves A Parade

paradeWe stake-out our spot early, line the streets, sit on curbs, bring our own lawn chairs, gather with family, talk with friends, waive little flags,  all to watch an organized procession of  festive-costumed participants, hear an amazing variety of fabulous music and gaze at enchantingly-decorative themed-floats.

History doesn’t tell us who created the first parade but each of us has a memory of our own ‘first parade’. For many youngsters in Emmett, it might be the Kid’s Cherry Festival Parade, held on Friday night during the Emmett Cherry Festival.

The Gem County Recreation District (GCRD) coordinates the Kid’s Parade event these days and kids are invited to participate by walking, riding or building a float.

This ever-popular event begins at Blaser Park on Friday evening, June 18, 2010, parading down Main Street to cheers and shouts from the crowd. Awards are given to ‘Best Of” in each category.

The ever-popular Emmett Cherry Festival Parade has a history going back to the first Cherry Festivals. In the past, scores of local businesses in town built floats to showcase their wares or services and entertain the community. Wagons and trailers were diligently decorated with colorful materials with riders atop waiving to the crowd-lined streets.

floatWith busy schedules and changing times, float building became less frequent. Dig deep in your past and recall how wonderful you childhood memories were of parades and the magnificent floats.

Whether you own a business, have an organization or just want to have fun, floats are a great way to participate in the Emmett Cherry Festival and promote your business or cause.

Great steps have been taken to revive floats in the Cherry Festival Parade. You’ll be surprised at the amazing quality and quantity of entries.

Cherry Festival Parade is Super Fun!!!

soak zoneThat’s what everyone says about the ‘Water Section’ at the end of the actual parade line-up along with three ‘Water Zones’ on the parade route: Mike’s Superstore parking lot, the old Albertsons lot/True Value area, and (for Gary) in front of Main Street Auto. Please note that these are the ONLY areas where water is allowed to be used and only with the last section of the parade line-up which will be clearly marked.

(The following forms are not yet available for 2010. Please check back later or call the Gem County Chamber of Commerce to request to be added to the distribution list at 208-365-3485)
