Spotlight on Business: FROZEN DOG DIGS BED & BREAKFAST

Unique and unlike any other B&B, for owner, Jon Elsberry, it’s been a self-made, project-by-project dream that he and his “Pops” built over the last 3 decades.

“I drew it up in 1979 and I’ve been married to the house for 32 years,” jokes Elsberry. “Pops and I would buy the materials and build the next phase. It’s taken a long time to get here. I took off my watch in 1979 because it was always time to work.”

Both Elsberry’s are craftsmen and the property boasts surprises of ornate wood and ironwork at every turn integrated into both the house itself and around the 4 acres of well-manicured grounds.

“The current project is an outdoor kitchen,” said Elsberry. “In my travels and stays at B&B’s I learned about what I liked in a B&B as well as asking my guests. One of the things I’m known for is my breakfasts. I have over 50 different breakfasts. Guests never have the same thing during their stay.”

The outdoor kitchen features inlaid wood and copper tin ceilings and an enormous outdoor TV. According to Elsberry, future plans for this area will include gourmet cooking classes put on by well-known Idaho chefs with pairings from local wineries.

“We are an event center for weddings and other events,” said Elsberry. “I’ve started the next stage of events including intimate reservation-only concerts around the patio and waterfall.”

According to Elsberry, about 50% of his business are guests visiting family or for local events. The other half is a combination of special event-stays like anniversaries and business trips and what happens at Frozen Dog, stays at Frozen Dog.

“This is an alternative place to stay for guests,” said Elsberry. “I make their experience a special and memorable one from preparing special foods to the hospitality. Guests are free to roam the house and property with just a couple of exclusions; my kitchen, my room and my messy desk area!”

Elsberry is a collector and has cataloged the origin and history of each piece from the signed autographed photos to the antiques and collectibles that adorn each room. There is an incredible sports bar with a snooker table, a music room with fireplace and books and a one-room-school library complete with a secret door to the full-size racquetball court.

While the view would be enough to intrigue any guest, there are additions like a walking path, mountain bikes, heated spa by the waterfalls, par-course exercise circuit and golf pitch-n-putt greens. Each of the four rooms has a unique feel and look which can be viewed on his website.
