Kenny Keene made a name for himself in the ring as a professional boxer. And while he holds many titles and records as a former crusierweight champion, for the last 10 years Keene has owned and operated Kenny Keene Bail Bonds.
As a boxer, Keene was known for ‘taking on all challenges and having undeniable toughness and heart’ earning an amazing record of 50-4 with 28 knock outs. His tenacity was no less when it came to becoming a successful local businessman.
“When I was still boxing, there was a guy who worked in my corner who’s wife had a bail bond business in Caldwell,” said Keene. “He told me about the business and said it would be right up my alley. I looked into it, got the business started and the rest is history. We’ve been helping people in Gem County now for over 10 years.”
Keene’s Bail Bonds offers three services; bail bonds, process service and drug testing. As a bail bond agent, Keene’s job is get people out of jail. His company acts on behalf of the person arrested to pledge money as bail to ensure the person appears in court when scheduled.
“We get calls any time of the day or night,” said Keene. “We go down to the jail, do all the paperwork and post bail so that person can get out. If all goes well, that’s the end of it. When a person jumps bail, it’s called a Failure to Appear. When that happens, an arrest warrant is issued and we may have to go looking for them. When this happens, their bond requirement from the court may double.”
Process Services are offered to those taking someone to small claims court. Keene serves the defendant and files the paperwork.
"You can’t serve someone yourself if you are the one suing,” said Keene. “You have to have a disinterested party do it for you. We process serve 24/7 to get it done. We usually charge a flat fee here in Gem County go to Boise and other places as well.”
The third service is Drug Testing and is a growing part of the business mix. Keene does on-site testing with results available in less than 2 minutes. Most businesses have drug policies which may include testing for pre-employment, random, probable cause or in the case of an accident. Businesses that have drug testing policies get a discount on Workmans Compensation insurance.
“We were sending employees to Boise,” said Terria Quenzer of Emerald Forest. “It’s so great to have Kenny come out here now. He’s been our hero.”
