Gold Panning
Gold Panning
If you want a truly hands-on experience, the River Through Time offers an annual Historical Experience for the entire family.
Among the many activities, you will pan for gold much like during the Thunder Mountain Gold Rush in Gem County in the 1800's.
The River Through Time is always held on the first full weekend in October on Saturday and Sunday. Presented by the Gem County Historical Society, reinactors dress in period clothing and offer authentic experiences in which attendees participate.
For more information, contact the Gem County Historic Village Museum at (208) 365-9530 or visit the museum at 501 E. 1st St, Emmett, ID 83617.

Gold Panning at the River Through Time.

Gold miners use water and sand to search for grains of gold.

Another popular way to search for gold was prospecting in the gold mine.

Miners forged many of their own tools but the most important tool was the weight scales to measure their treasure.

Miners sold their gold in town and bartered for supplies. Gold is made in to bars by the US Government.
