Albertsons is one of the Treasure Valley’s greatest business successes and one of the Gem County’s greatest community supporters. Joe Albertson and his partners opened the first store in 1939 and according to the website, opened the Emmett store, their 4th, following World War II. After amicably dissolving the partnership, Joe incorporated in 1945.
By 2005 Albertsons grew to be one of the largest retail food and drug chains in the United States with over 2,500 stores in 37 states. Our own Emmett store has seen its share of change and growth as well.
Alberstons built and moved to the current location in 2003 from Washington Avenue. Since that opening, additions include Starbucks, US Bank and an expanded pharmacy. Patti Gallivan took over as Store Director about a year ago.
“I love this community and love the store,” said Gallivan. “The associates are awesome and customers are awesome. I have really enjoyed getting to know everyone. Alberstons does so much in the community; it’s a pleasure to know the people we give to.”
Gallivan has been with Albertsons for over 30 years starting and staying in bakery for the first 20 years. She was promoted to supervise 42 stores, has worked produce and had most recently been at the store on Glenwood and State Streets.
“This store has so much to offer,” said Gallivan. “I’m particularly proud of the amount of local produce we carried this season. We are partnering with local farmers, setting up agreements to buy from them. We did the most we’ve ever done locally last summer. We are providing food in the local schools and participating in programs like Donuts with Dads and Muffins with Moms at the schools. We are also part of the Fresh Rescue Program wherein we provide fresh produce, meat, dairy and bread three times a week to the local food bank. This time of year Albertsons is very involved with providing donations for Turkey Baskets that go to families in need at Thanksgiving and Christmas. I think people would be amazed at how much Albertsons really does in and for the community.”
Albertsons is also an important employer with about 100 employees.
“During the holidays, think about Albertsons for your entertaining,” said Gallivan. “We have a huge selection of party trays and our bakery is so talented. We constantly look at what people want and listen to our local customers to bring in what you want as much as possible. We recently increased our specialty cheese selection from this trend.”
