Ribbon Cutting! Under the Umbrella

Under the Umbrella

Emmett is celebrating the addition of Under the Umbrella. Owned by Matt and Darcy Johnson, Under the Umbrella has unique gifts and home décor items as well as Emmett Huskie gear for sale.

“This started as a little hobby for me,” said Darcy. “Matt and I were married a little over a year ago. I was living in Nashville and never dreamed of living in a little town like this. It’s such a great community with a wonderful downtown. After a year of marriage and talking about what I wanted to do, Matt suggested I open the shop. We have all new items and décor along with handmade items for sale.”

The feel of the store is inviting and filling up with new items every week. There is Americana/Patriotic-themed décor and gifts, country-themed items, hair accessories and jewelry, handmade embroidered (and personalized) items, general décor (clocks, wall hangings, frames) and Huskies gear.

“We will always carry Patriotic/Americana items,” said Darcy. “I believe in patriotism 365 days a year. We will also always carry Huskies items to promote school spirit and show support. We give back 20% of the Huskies items sales to the school. The overall direction we are going with the store is to be a boutique and to specialize in seasonal items. We will have Halloween items soon and then Christmas items. For Christmas, we will create Santa’s Closet which will become an all year-round display of Christmas items for sale. It will be a little like the Scented Cottage was in that you will be able to come in and get a gift anytime and have a good selection. We will even custom gift wrap it for you starting in November.”

Darcy’s parents moved from Nashville to Emmett to be close to the family. Matt and Darcy’s union now includes 9 children, 2 of which are adults, and 2 grandchildren. Darcy’s mom, Renee Richeson is an expert embroiderer who stitches the beautiful pieces currently found in the store and will be offering additional custom items with your name or special message hand stitched to your tea towel, pillowcase or bath towel.

“October is Breast Cancer Awareness month,” said Darcy. “We already have pink Huskies shirts for sale. Soon we will be putting baskets together for gift giving. So there might be a tea towel and kitchen items in a basket and I’ll even wrap it for you so you have a readymade gift to go. Look for our newsletter for all the upcoming events and additions.”

Drop in and support this new local business. Under the Umbrella is located at 203 W. Main Street; open Monday – Saturday, 10:00am – 5:00pm. For more information call Darcy at 851-8240.
