Sweet, Idaho USA

Sweet, Idaho is a rural, sparsely-populated and friendly community.

Sweet, an unincorporated town, lies approximately 16 miles NE of Emmett.

To find Sweet from Emmett, follow the Black Canyon Hwy (Hwy 52) along the Black Canyon Reservoir. The “borders” of Sweet start along Hwy 52. Along Hwy 52 you’ll find historic Johns Pool & Hot Springs where many locals and visitors frequent for a swim or therapeutic soak.

Further on Hwy 52, the Triangle Restaurant sits and to find the center of “town” simply turn off (left/north) at the Sweet Ola Hwy and drive about 2 miles north towards the mountains.

Sweet was established as a post office by Ezekiel Sweet in 1885. The post office was created to serve the farming and ranching community of the Lower Squaw Creek Valley. Since 1985, Postmaster Carol Johns has operated the post office serving the approximately 400 residents of Sweet.

During the gold rush to the Thunder Mountain Mines, Sweet was positioned as a freighter's supply station. At the turn of the century, Sweet featured three hotels, three saloons, a bank, a newspaper, two lodge halls and many other businesses. The end of the gold rush and several fires nearly destroyed the business district which was never rebuilt.

Sweet offers sweeping spectacular views, private settings, rolling hills and lots of open space. Sweet is a highly desirable location for those looking for a home in the hills or a place to get-away to the mountains without having to go far. There is direct access to nature, wildlife and miles and miles of unspoiled trails to follow or forge.

Sweet is at an elevation of 2,559 feet.
